Georgina Wolfe represents Greater Manchester Police in the inquest into the death of David Askew
Georgina Wolfe has represented Greater Manchester Police in the inquest into the death of David Askew who died in 2010. The coroner John Pollard found that Mr Askew had died of a heart attack following an altercation with a local youth. Despite the best efforts of the police who arrived within 9 minutes of a non-emergency call complaining about the youth, Mr Askew could not be revived. Mr Pollard’s verdict was unlawful killing.
The coroner heard evidence of how the police had visited the family every couple of days, assisted with putting up fences and lighting, collated evidence against the local youths and had even gone beyond the call of duty setting up a youth group and sitting in with the family during evenings to try and catch the perpetrators.
In his summing up, the coroner said that he would write to the Chief Constable to ask him to review the policing procedures for this type of conduct but also to praise and commend the efforts of PCSO Pragnall who had assisted the family since 2007.
Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan told the BBC that the force had made ‘significant improvements’ to the way it dealt with anti-social behaviour.
Mrs Rose Askew, David’s mother said ‘
I also want to say how lovely the support has been from the police and other agencies. People often forget that police officers are human beings and they really care about us.’
Georgina’s practice encompasses all aspects of police law and she has a particular interest in inquests.
